Week 10 Post 2

Picked this up off of Facebook this morning and chose to use it in my second class blog. This is a video story about a little poodle mix that was found in a seemingly abandoned part of down hiding next to a dumpster. Poor girl was covered with flees, hungry, and blind in both eyes. Thanks to the caring souls that took the call she was rescued, cleaned up, and had one of her eye lens replaced (other one was beyond recovery I suppose.). Abused / neglected pet and children are 2 things that should not be in my opinion.

Week 10 Post 1

Looks like things are heating up more in the Straight... not sure if this is just a pressure move geared toward seeing if Iran will shake on it's alleged "quest" for nuclear weapons or there is actually a war on the way... This is one of those times when I am glad that I chose the Coast Guard over the Navy. Hopefully this can all get worked out in a peaceful fashion and nobody gets hurt. Fingers crossed!

More minesweepers making their way toward Iranian waters.

Week 7 Blog 2

Death:
I think within the top two or three things that we human beings fear the most is dying. I don't really understand this... I have no fear of dying but am not really interested in a painful death. Seems to me like death is something that people would have more of a positive outlook on. After all it is the end of the end. Sure you loose the things you love but at the same time you don't know that they are gone because you no longer exist. Whats the big deal?

Thursday at about 9pm EST an acquaintance left one of the bars here in town after spending most of the night drinking heavily (he was a text book example of an alcoholic). After handing out hugs and emotional good byes our blog subject (lets call him Joe) made the roughly 300 yard trek back to his apartment to grab some sleep prior to another early work day. People noticed his behavior and thought it was strange but nobody worried to much about it. He was always very friendly and as mentioned before always very drunk so nothing about his affections was totally unusual.... but there was something not quite right. Anyway, at 1am or so 2 others left the same bar and headed on the same trek toward the apartment with the intention of couch crashing and getting a little rest before taking on the last work day of the week. These plans did not quite work out that way.... upon entering Joe's apartment they found Joe face down on the living room floor, very blue, and very dead. Having seen more than my fair share of dead bodies I can related to the feelings involved with confronting the realization of death... however I can not imagine what it is like to walk in expecting to see the smiling face of a passed out drunk and instead finding out that all these years that happy face was actually concealing depression / suicide.

Sitting here in that very bar, drinking coffee, watching a stream of "loving" family and friends (most of which in the 3 years I have known Joe I have never seen before) swing by the talk about how much the miss him and what a great person he was I am forced to wonder if this is almost some sort of act.... I mean if you really cared as much as you are saying why didn't you try to help him instead of saying... "oh well that's just who he is"? Maybe they did prior to me getting here and were told by Joe that his life plan was to be a professional drunk and he didn't want to do anything else with his life... I know the answers to these questions I will never have nor attempt to get... I have tried on other situations and the results are always the same... how dare you suggest that I was not really his friend... or I can't believe that you are implying that I was not a good mother. Having witnessed this song and dance many times before I think people do this sort of thing in hopes that one day others will do the same for them.

Roughly 15 ft away from me crawling on a dirty bar floor is cute "Little Joe" who less than 30 hours ago lost his father. Little Joe does not seem to be bothered by this though... he is to busy reveling in all the attention that he is getting and taking advantage of the fact that his grandmother seems to be willing to buy him whatever his heart desires. Does he know the reason for this "family meeting" at his father's second home? Did he actually ever have a father or does the 5'10 walking vodka and cranberry (aka Joe) even count? Sad situation all the way around.... one soul drowns its pain in booze and drugs while another drowns its in bar food, juice boxes, and a nice bar hat that ironically reads "The Liver Is Evil and Must Be Punished." Go figure.

Week 7 JotForm Review

I was a little worried that this was going to be a pain in the ass but found this assignment to be ridiculously easy. Upon making my way to the website I discovered that there are several template forms available that you can easily tailor to your needs. Even reminds you to add your email address before you close it. As with YouTube embedding options are simple and easy to modify. Great site!
I already received some input on my site regarding changes that would spruce it up a bit!

Week 6 Blog Soon to be extinct moderate repubs

I am on a roll with the political humor today apparently... yet another great article from The Onion!

"Our new program is designed to isolate the few remaining specimens of moderate Republicans, mate them in captivity, and then safely release these rare and precious creatures back into the electorate," said IPPM’s Cynthia Rollins, who traces the decline of the species to changes in the political climate and rampant, predatory fanaticism. "Within our safe, enclosed habitats, these middle-of-the-road Republican Party members can freely support increased funding for public education and even gay rights without being threatened by the far-right subgenus."

Week 6 Blog GOP Race

I am not sure how many of you readers enjoy The Onion but I get a kick out of it! Here is a video I found this afternoon reporting on the nomination hopefuls! Enjoy and remember... Life imitates the Onion!

Week 6 Blog Pandora

Though I use quite a few web apps Pandora is by far my favorite. Pandora "streams" music through whatever device you are using and provides a high quality, low hassle musical experience. Pandora allows you to create stations around songs or artist that you like then will play songs based off those preferences. For example I am a huge fan of a band called Ramstein. When I select that station Pandora will play songs by that band or songs in the genre. If I hear a song that I really enjoy I can "like" it by selecting a thumbs up option at the bottom of the screen. Like wise if I hear a song that I am not a fan of I can simply click a thumbs down button and I will never hear that song on that station again. I currently use the free edition which plays a commercial every 5 songs or so but for a small charge could upgrade to the paid version and hear less or no commercials. I have stations for every occasion. Hard rock / death metal for the gym, easy listening for the office, or classical and maybe some jazz for the ride to and from. In my opinion Pandora is the best music app available.
